Destructoid is a popular video game related blog that has gained a huge following among gamers for its casual style. A team of editors work together to add content to the front page, by watching press releases, fellow gaming blogs, and reader-submitted tips. Most information can be found extremely quickly on the front page, sometimes minutes after it is announced. It is presented in a humorous and satirical style that readers have grown to love.

The site was begun in an effort to get the main editors to have enough official press status to be able to enter the press-only gaming event E3. However, as they wrote humorous articles in an attempt to gain attention from other major sources, they started to gain more and more readers. The huge response prompted them to establish their blog as an official internet community and continue with their endeavors.

Destructoid is one of the largest independent gaming communities online, owned and operated by hardcore gamers across the US and UK. Destructoid began as a one man prank to get into the E3 conference. Today the company employs 36 freelancers, reaching over 2.5 million unique visitors a month. The company attributes its success to its casual approach to gaming news, its disruptive robot brand/personality, and staffing everyday bloggers that truly know and love gaming.

Now, the Destructoid writing staff has grown in leaps and bounds, with over 20 bloggers contributing content whenever they stumble upon it. There is also a comment system which has been compared to other blogs such as Slashdot, at which the comments are a very important part of the community and provide much more information and opinions than the original article in some cases.

Destructoid also offers a number of weekly features, such as a podcast. There are also smaller features such as one weekly column that outlines cheap games that may have been overlooked by the general public, or another that updates the community on the efforts of small-time game developers.

Like any similar blog with many editors submitting content, Destructoid is updated quite frequently. On top of all of the regular features, new stories crop up all of the time and the editors at Destructoid are always there to catch them as soon as possible.
