- A: Originally AArisings was started January 1990 as record label dedicated to showcasing and releasing Asian American music artists. A series of talent showcases, also named AArisings, were produced and proved to have been the starting grounds for AArising Stars like Pinay (recording artists), James Wong (actor/comedian), Art Hirahara (jazz musician), Byron Yee (comedian/playwright), 18 Mighty Mountain Warriors (comedy troupe), In-Cite (rap group), One Vision (vocal r&b group), and more. The showcase series consisted of 5 shows over a 3 year period, the final show concluded in August 1996. In 1997, AArising Records folded and passed the torch to many other indie record labels who have been furthering the cause of Asian American performers around the country. Now, AArisings is strictly a non-profit, web-based resource about Asian Pacific Americans in the entertainment world.
