Step 2 is best known for durable toys in contemporary designs and color palettes. Most Step2 products are made using rotational molding, a process that Tom Murdough pioneered for use in the consumer products market. The process lends itself will to larger products such as swing sets, playhouses, and storage sheds, and can be efficiently done domestically, keeping more jobs within the USA. Step2 is the largest rotational molding company in the world, and molds the majority of its products in three factories in the USA.
History
Thomas G. Murdough, Jr., founder and former president of The Little Tikes Company (1969-1989) launched Step 2 in 1991 to manufacture of Home and Garden products. The company grew rapidly due to the wild success of the MailMaster Mailboxes that defined the early years of Step 2. A few years later, Step 2 began to make inroads to the toy market.
Mr. Murdough built Step 2 on a basic philosophy of quality, value and service backed by a commitment to customer satisfaction. His mission was to go "A Step Beyond" the competition in the development and manufacturing of toys, childrens furniture, and innovative products for the family and home. The idea of pleasant design and durability that was created in the early days is still pervasive today.
In April, 2007, Step 2 began collecting and publishing toy reviews at the official Step 2 website through a partnership with PowerReviews.com. This almost-unheard-of action allows consumers to read and submit reviews on Step 2 products at a central source of information concerning Step 2, and provides an immediate accountability for both the manufacturing quality and customer service that Step 2 provides.
