Welcome to AboutUs.org!

Hello, my name is Kristina.

I noticed your contributions to the wiki DomainPage for LanguageGuide.org and I'm excited that you've chosen to explore the wonderful world of wiki here at AboutUs.org. Welcome! Would you care to add a little bit about yourself on your personal page so the community may get to know you? (You can see mine as an example at User:KristinaWeis.) Let me know if you have any questions along the way (I'd love to hear from you!) - please leave a message on my talk page via the "talk" link in my signature below. You may also join the AboutUs WebIRC to chat or ask a question, and below are some links that I have found helpful...

Welcome to the AboutUs community - it's great to have you!

Oh, hey. I knew you were here because you were making edits and your contributions showed up in Special:RecentChanges. Wiki is pretty transparent which helps for collaboration's sake. How do you like it here so far? KristinaWeis | **talk** 18:38, 3 October 2007 (PDT)

What you are seeing is the new skin, so no major changes should be coming anytime soon. It wasn't bad before, but this is certainly a much prettier and user-friendly facelift in my opinion. As far as what to work on, that's all up to you. The leaning here is towards DomainPages, articles about web sites but there is room to build whatever you like (I've made Portal:Swing Dancing as an example]], or you can build out you own PersonalPage). We as a group of wiki nerds in Portland, Oregon are sitting around at this month's "Wiki Wednesday" as mentioned on the homepage web blog. KristinaWeis | **talk** 18:47, 3 October 2007 (PDT)

Hey, great job catching that on the signature page. I've been trying to update these inconsistencies as I notice them, but there are so many it seems! KristinaWeis | **talk** 19:08, 3 October 2007 (PDT)

DaChess.org

I have deleted this page because I saw that it wouldn't be able to be repopulated via the bot. I am not familiar with the term "NFD"...? If you would like to request the deletion of a page for this sort of case you can add {{Delete}} to the page, but this isn't something that is done very often and if the web site is still accessible a deletion will only last so long as the page is not searched for or linked to. I noticed you playing around with templates and I thought this category may be useful. KristinaWeis | **talk** 02:14, 6 October 2007 (PDT)

Flagging things as adult content

You were asking about adult content issues. On any domain page, look for a flag icon and the word "flag" just below the right end of the long brown bar. User pages don't have this - just domain pages. Click on the word "flag" and you will then be able to tag the article as adult content.

If the article includes related domains, some of the related domains may also need to be flagged as adult content. --Iapetus 09:18, 8 October 2007 (PDT)

You can see PossibleAdultContent and AdultContentPolicy for more details. I've redirected the page you turned up to one that includes directions for the benefit of the next person hoping to find the same. KristinaWeis | **talk** 12:11, 8 October 2007 (PDT)

The Purpose of AboutUs

An answer to this question will surely differ depending on whom is asked. For a more across the board answer, have you seen TheWikiWay:WhatIsAboutUs and AboutUs:About?

To me, the main idea behind AboutUs is that as a wiki it is about collaboration from its users. And being a resource primarily about the web it is about articles on web sites that aren't simply from the perspective of the domain owner, but rather from a collaboration of the 20-something that uses the site all the time, and the disgruntled customer, and the friend of the guy that created the site, etc. (much like how the best news articles are written from researching several sources and by someone other than the subject of the article). You may also be interested in checking out AboutUsValues or the WikiAnatomy tours. I hope that helps some, KristinaWeis | **talk** 12:11, 8 October 2007 (PDT)
